What’s In My Beach Bag {Giveaway!}

Since I’ve been all about the beach lately, I thought I’d show you what I carry in my beach bag today!

Starting left to right: my sunglasses. These are from Target, purchased almost immediately when we first arrived in Arizona, almost three years ago. They’ve served me well. More about my sunglasses pouch in this post. I’ll bring my wallet, and also a colorful zippered pouch for holding make up. For the beach, it will probably just hold chapstick with SPF.

I’ll also bring some cocoa butter lotion. This tube is from Target, and I love that it’s small enough to carry onto planes. Cocoa butter has a lovely light scent, and there’s nothing better for maintaining a tan. Seriously, it will make it last for weeks.

Headphones, for plugging into my iphone and listening to beachy background music. Sunscreen, SPF 30. A bottle of water, and my sandals, which I actually bought at Disneyland.

My trusty beach towel, which matches my swim suit. I love to bring reading material, and also a notebook and pen to jot down any ideas that come to me while relaxing. My swimsuit is from Ron Jon’s Surf Shack, and I love it. The shorts are great for people like me who are self-conscious about their legs. Plus, for youth group swimming activies, the girls usually wear shorts and tees over their swimsuits, so these surf shorts are perfect.

That’s that! It all fits into this beach bag.

This bag has a story behind it. It’s handmade by the artisan business partners of Indego Africa, a social enterprise that lifts women-owned businesses in Rwanda toward sustainable economic independence through access to markets and education. They partner with over 400 women-owned business to give them access to markets for their jewelry, accessories, and home decor on their online store and over 80 retail locations. They also collaborate with major design brands like J.Crew, Madewell, and Nicole Miller.
Indego Africa’s profits go to fund training programs for their artisans taught by Rwandan university students on business management, entrepreneurship, literacy, technology, and health.
Many of these women are survivors of the 1994 genocide, which not only destroyed their country, but left them widowed. Many are the sole providers for approximately 5.5 dependents, and many struggle with HIV/AIDS. With little education, these women made less than $2 a day.
Indego Africa has several objectives for their artisan partners:
  • WOMEN GENERATING SUSTAINABLE INCOME. Women consistently earn more than $2 per day through their own initiative and oversee households that are entirely free of hunger, inadequate housing, and school absenteeism.
  • WOMEN LEVERAGING VALUABLE LONG-TERM SKILLS. Women deploy new high-value skills to earn supplemental income in their own community – whether at a cooperative, another employer, or their own business.
  • WOMEN RUNNING PROFITABLE EXPORT BUSINESSES. Women manage cooperatives that are fiscally responsible, effective in product design and delivery, and dynamic contributors to the community – all while engaging the global export market on their own terms.
  • WOMEN FEELING HOPEFUL AND CONFIDENT. Women translate their experiences of financial success and increased productivity into a lasting sense of self-worth and pride, knowing that anything can be accomplished by working together with others and relying on their own strength.
Indego sent me this Color Weave Beach Bag to review, and I can’t recommend it enough. It came signed by the woman who made it! Not only is it beautiful, it’s huge! I’m amazed by how much I can fit comfortably inside. Plus, the handles are the perfect length to carry it all comfortably on your sholder, regardless of how full it is, and it’s extremely sturdy.

Today, Indego Africa is giving away $50 to one of you lucky readers towards anything in their online shop! To enter, visit Indego’s shop and leave a comment about your favorite handmade item. After that, there’s several more ways to enter to increase your chances. The giveaway ends Friday at Midnight!

Motherhood, Work, and Grace {Giveaway!}

For Mother’s Day, the Wall Street Journal featured an article by Athelia Wooley LeSuer, the founder of Shabby Apple, an online dress boutique that specializes in vintage and retro dresses, on her thoughts and experience running a fashion company and being a mom.

“I will do my best as an entrepreneur. I will do my best as your mother.
I won’t apologize.

I won’t apologize for being a mother. I won’t apologize for you. When I go to meetings with international buyers, I will carry you on my belly. When you cry, I will politely excuse myself to calm you. The fabric man from Shanghai will be surprised, but he will take me seriously because I take myself seriously.”

Shabby Apple

It’s a beautiful tribute to her commitment to her baby daughter and to her work, and you can read the full article here.  I do realize that not all moms can take their babies to work with them and hold them during meetings, dance with them during conference calls, and take them to networking parties.

In fact, one of my friends is going back to her job as a special education teacher today after two weeks with her newborn. Relatives are coming to stay with them until school lets out to watch the baby at home, but what about next year? Will she eventually have to choose between her job, which she loves, and staying home with her baby, whom she also loves?

How do your dreams and being a mom intersect? Is balance between work and being a mom actually possible? How do you reconcile the way God has gifted us to serve others out in the workforce, and the way He wired us to nurture and raise precious little people?

These, and similar, questions were on my mind this weekend with all the Mother’s Day festivities. I used to feel like if I got pregnant before finishing school or before I had a good job, my life would be over. It’s taken some time, but I really don’t feel that way anymore. I’m certainly not in a hurry to start a family, but I don’t believe it would be the end of the world.

I guess God gives grace for each season of life. To the mom who works and puts her children in day care, God gives grace. To the mom who quits her career to stay home, God gives grace. To the moms who start their own businesses and work from home, God gives grace.

I do admire Athelia’s perspective, and I’m always happy to work with companies that share similar values. Shabby Apple is committed to making life better for women worldwide through their work with Accion providing micro financing loans for women to start their own businesses. And this week, they’re giving away $50 to one of you lucky readers!

I love my Toe The Line dress from the Set Sail Collection, but I’m also a huge fan over one of their latest Fete De Fleurs Collection, a fantastical floral tea party.

Giveaway from Scribbles Shoppe and Mercy Ink Designs

Have you ever read a blog and thought: “In real life, we would totally be friends.” That’s how I feel about Lauren from Mercy Ink. I’m so honored that she shared her heart and grace-filled words about why fair trade matters last week, and today, she also agreed to a joint giveaway!

Lauren’s Etsy shop features products to pen His story in our hearts and homes. She sells digital art and prints especially for the Christian home, including nursery art, baby gifts, scripture typography, and adoption art and gifts.

The Mills family is planning to bring their own little one home from Congo!

As they explain on their adoption fundraising page:

Most of you know that we have felt called to adopt since before our oldest was born. Over the past 6 years since her birth, adoption has never been out of our thoughts and prayers, but we were always just praying for His timing. Though all human wisdom would say it’s not wise or that it doesn’t make sense, God has so clearly spoken to our hearts the word: “now.”
We could not be more grateful for our calling to adopt. We know that each family looks different and each person feels passionate about different things, but whether you are called to adopt or not, we know with all of our hearts that the Lord’s command to love the orphan and the widow is clear and undeniable, and in that vein, we invite you into this journey with us.

Religion that God our Father accepts as pure and faultless is this: to look after orphans and widows in their distress and to keep oneself from being polluted by the world. (James 1:27)

You can find out more about their adoption journey here:
The Post I Waited Seven Years to Write
Adopting from DR Congo

On her blog, Lauren writes about inspiring ordinary women to follow Jesus, live brave, love well, and change the world. I know you’ll be blessed by her writing, as I am!

So without further ado, Lauren and I are giving away $20 each to our Etsy shops, to be used on whatever the winner chooses!

Just a note, if you’re interested in any of the invitation designs in my shop, they can be customized for other occasions. I just sold a wedding invitation design that was customized for a bridal shower 🙂

Beauty Find Friday: A Sale, A Sneak Peek, and A Winner

One of the hardest things about being a grown up is not getting a Spring Break. I realized this week that I totally took Spring Break for granted. I mean, it always came at just the right time, when Christmas break was a distant memory, the weather warmed up enough to make studying impossible, and your brains were turned to mush anyway from seven to eight months of school. Plus, there was the opportunity to escape to every midwest girl’s fantasy: THE BEACH.

Instead of laying on the sand, I’ve been hard at work this week. I’m almost ready to launch a new spring collection of stationery in Scribbles Shoppe. This collection is hand painted by yours truly, then I scan each painting, design the cards, print and assemble them into lovely little packages in my apartment. Here’s a little sneak peek:

If you follow me on Pinterest, you might have noticed that I’ve been very inspired by flowers lately. These paintings are based on actual wedding bouquets I’ve seen on Pinterest. So, sending these cards is almost as good as sending flowers! My goal with this collection is to celebrate life’s lovely moments, and to make something that will be cherished.

To celebrate the coming launch, I’m having a sale on everything in my shop! Take $5 off any designs currently in my shop with the code: 50FFSALE

P.S. If you really don’t have any use for wedding invites, I’m happy to alter the design to fit your special occasion. Just hit the “contact” button on the sidebar of the listing and fill me in on your request, or add a note to seller when checking out, and we’ll make it happen!

In other news, thank you for entering the Noonday Collection Giveaway! The winner of the $50 to Noonday Collection is: Victoria Andrews! Congrats! I’ve already emailed you, so be sure to respond in 24 hrs to claim your prize!

Beauty Find Friday: Spring Giveaway!

Today the sun’s peeking in an out of rain clouds, and right now the wind is whistling around the apartment. This definitely feels like spring! On Sunday afternoon, Brian and I enjoyed the weather with a stroll ’round the park.

lipstick c/o Radiant Cosmetics, necklace c/o Noonday Collection, tee:Lof,  sweater: old, Forever21
The main reason we were at this particular park is to check out the field. Brian got the job of head coach for the baseball team of a local Christian school! I couldn’t be more proud. I know he’s going to do a great job, and he’ll really love it. I also asked Brian to take a few pictures of me modeling my new necklace.
jeans: Old Navy, shoes: GAP
From looking at it, you would never guess that this necklace is made from paper beads! The beads are rolled and painted by hand by artisans in Uganda. Because of the opportunity to work for Noonday Collection, these artistans are earning enough to provide for their families, send their kids to school, and leave lives of exploitation on the streets.
I was thrilled to receive a hard copy version of Noonday’s lookbook along with this Shalom necklace, which also comes in yellow. As you know from the Fashion for Freedom series, this is a company I absolutely love.
Noonday Collection’s Spring Lookbook features stunning photos of their trendy, stylish fair trade products, but also intersperses true stories of how fair trade employment has changed the lives of the artisans. I was especially touched by Ruth’s story.

One of our artisans, Ruth, is resilient and full of joy. She was orphaned at age 6 and sent to be a servant in her oldest stepsister’s home. Her step sister died when Ruth was 10, and Ruth became the caretaker of her sister’s three small children. After several years, she left for the city to try and find a new life. Sadly, she met a life of exploitation. Her reality changed when she went to church for the first time and the pastor told Ruth she could come live with their family. This same pastoer helped solidify her new job with our Ugandan group.

This necklace might have been made by Ruth.

If you really want to get choked up, look at the back page of the lookbook. Pictures of some of the families’ whose adoptions have been aided through the 10% of trunk show sales from Noonday cover the back! Noonday advocates for orphans by:
  • “Providing jobs that create a pathway out of poverty for families. A stable income means a family is less likely to abandon their child.
  • Help families raise money for their own adoptions. We give 10% of trunk show sales directly to the adoptive family when they host a trunk show.
  • Aside from donating 10% towards qualified adoptive families, Noonday Collection also gives towards orphan care and prevention. Watch the video to see one of our beneficiaries.
  • The dream: Take YOU on a trip to visit artisans and visit orphans in their distress.”

Noonday Collection is a fair trade company with a passion for style and people. I’m so excited to be able to give away $50 toward any Noonday products today!
Here’s a few of their products on my wishlist:
Many Ways bag. Clutch, cross body, and reversible!
Are you ready to win?! Enter using the raffelcopter widget below (email subscribers, you’ll have to click over to the blog to enter).

This giveaway ends next Friday. I’ll contact the winner by email, and they’ll have 24 hours to respond before a new winner is chosen.

Update: The winner is…. Sabrina! Congratulations! I’ll be contacting you shortly!

Today I finally get to announce some exciting news that I’ve trying to hold in for several weeks:  I’m IN a book! Not one, but TWO of my very own blog posts are featured in We Are THAT Family‘s latest book, That Works For Me, an incredible e-book compilation of the most popular tips submitted to the Works For Me Wednesday link up.

With 800 tips submitted by real people facing everyday, real issues, That Works For Me is a one stop reference, similar to chatting over the fence with 800 next door neighbors!

The tips are categorized into Baby, Beauty, Blogging, Cleaning, Craft, Decor, Frugal, Garden, Gift, Green, Holiday, Homeschool, Hospitality, Kitchen, Laundry, Marriage, Odds and Ends, Organization, Parenting, Pets, Recipes, Time Management, Tech/Computers, and Travel.

I’ve only just begun to browse, and already I’ve learned how to make natural and inexpensive eye makeup remover, how to buy skinny jeans, where to find free blog bling, how to clean a showerhead and doors, and even how to design your own fabric.

Each section starts with a few words by the two women who put the book together, Jennifer Groot and Kristen Welch. Kristen’s intro to the craft section made me laugh out loud:

Keep calm and get your craft on.
I love arts and crafts. It’s the one thing we do together as a
family that brings unity and by unity, I don’t mean we always
share the glue. But art always produces something unique.
Notice I didn’t say beautiful.
– Kristen Welch, We are THAT family

You can have LOL’s, lightbulb moments, aha!’s and more with this e-book, all for $8.

One of the privileges of being in the book is that I got a free copy, but another is that I get to give away a free copy as well!

How To Enter

You can earn 2 entries to win a free copy:
1. Share this post on your facebook, and leave a comment saying you did so.

How To Wear This Spring’s Makeup Trends {Giveaway}

Hello Beauties! I’m Tara, founder of Haute Lunch Beauty and Fashion Blog, and I’m absolutely thrilled to be writing a guest post for Scribbles from Emily! Today I want to show you all how to create a quick and easy makeup look that is perfect for spring and summer!

This season, citrus, jewel tone, and pastel colors are showing up everywhere, which is great because these colors look fabulous on eyes, lips, and cheeks! Although brightening up your makeup may seem risky to some, this tutorial will help you do it with confidence and ease!

Before I get started on the application, I want to talk about the products I used to create this look. By no means do you need to use the exact same products. Any brand will do, so long as the colors are similar and the products serve the same purpose.

1-6. Eye Shadows from Tarte’s Spring Greening Palette

1. Warm Rose

2. Teal

3. Bronze

4. Pale Pink

5. Lime Green

6. Lilac

7. Revlon Super Lustrous Lipgloss in Coral Reef

8. M.A.C. Sheertone Shimmer Blush in Blush Baby (peach-colored)

9. Philosophy Never Let Them See You Shine Face Primer

10. Lorac Behind the Scenes Eye Primer

11. Tarte EmphasEYES for Brows in Taupe

As you can see, eye shadow, lip color, and blush are key to updating your look this season, but there are a few other products I think are important to mention as well.

First, I want to talk about primers. If you’re like me, you’re usually in a hurry to get out the door, and adding a step to your makeup routine is the last thing you want to do. However, adding a primer to my makeup routine was one of the best moves I’ve ever made. Why you ask? Well, that’s because in the long run, it saves me both time and money! Face and eye primers create the perfect base for makeup, saving me time by allowing me to achieve the rich pigment I want from my blush and eye shadow quickly. Primers also save me money because I can use substantially less product every time I apply my makeup. If those reasons aren’t good enough on their own, priming also makes your skin and makeup look satiny smooth and keeps your makeup looking fresh all day! I think I’ve made my point. 😀

The other product I want to point out that I think many people overlook is an eyebrow pencil. This year, there is definitely a trend toward fuller, more natural eyebrows. An eyebrow pencil helps fill in thin eyebrows and gives your eyes a nice frame so they can really pop! Brow waxes and powders can be used instead of an eyebrow pencil, but I recommend pencils because they allow for easier, more precise application.

Now that I’ve talked about some important but often overlooked products, let’s dive into the tutorial! Of course, you always want to start your makeup application with a clean, dry face. From there, prep your face for makeup application with your face and eye primers, then apply your foundation and/or powder as you normally would. Now for the fun part!

Step 1: Apply Blush. For this look, I’m using a pastel peach colored blush from M.A.C., but anything similar in color will do. Apply blush from the apples of your cheeks up to your temples. Also apply a little blush to your forehead, the bridge of your nose, and your jaw line to even out the look and give you a nice, sun-kissed glow!

Step 2: Apply Base Eye Shadow. I’m using eye shadow #4, which is a pale pink. Again, any pale pink eye shadow will do. Apply this shadow from just under your eyebrows all the way down to your eyelashes. A fluff brush works best for this, but use whatever you have on hand.

Step 3: Apply Eye Shadow to Lid. For this step, I’m using eye shadow #5, which is a lime green! To avoid fall out, dab the eye shadow onto your lid before blending. I like to use a thick eye shadow brush with short bristles for this step (such as M.A.C.’s 214 Short Shader Brush), but again, use what you have.

Step 4: Apply Eye Shadow to Crease. Here I’m using eye shadow #2, which is teal in color, to line the crease of my eyelid. To avoid getting too much shadow by your tear duct, start in the middle of the crease, then work your way in. After you’ve lined this half, go to the outer corner of your eye (think of an imaginary line from the end of your eyebrow to the outer corner of your eye- this is where you want to start this time) and finish lining the rest of your crease. To finish, simply blend the color from the crease up a bit (approx ¼ inch) on the outer edges of your eyes. This three step eye shadow application is very versatile and helps your eyes look big and beautiful!

Step 5: Apply Eyeliner and Mascara. For this look, I used a silver green eyeliner from Sephora and Physician’s Formula PlentiFull Mascara in black-brown. This season, using colored eyeliners is definitely trendy, so don’t be afraid to try out a few new shades. Plus, eyeliner pencils last a long time, and are often inexpensive! To line your eyes, start in the middle of your upper lash line (never line inside your lash line as this could cause eye infections) and work your way in, then go to the outside of your upper lash line and work your way back to the middle. On the bottom lash line, just start at the outside and line to the middle of your eye. Lining only the outer half of your lower lash line will make your eyes look bigger than if you line them all the way. Finish off by curling your lashes and applying a coat of mascara.

Step 6: Fill in Those Brows. Using my Tarte EmphasEYES brow pencil, I filled in the outer edges of my brows since they are a little sparse. Be sure to use a brow pencil that is approximately the same color, or one shade darker, than your brows. Also, be sure to smooth out those brows with a brow brush once you’re finished filling them in!

Step 7: Line Your Lips. For this step, I’m using an Ulta Contour Lip Pencil in Rose because I’m going to use a coral colored lip gloss. Using a lip pencil that is slightly darker than your lip gloss will help give a nice, defined look to your lips, which is especially important when using light colored lipsticks or glosses.

Step 8: Apply Lip Gloss or Lipstick. This season, bright, opaque lip colors are definitely in! There are many opaque lip glosses available now, such as the coral colored gloss I’m using from Revlon, but lipstick will work fine, too. Fill in your lips with color, and if you do use a lipstick, finish them off with a thin coating of gloss to give them some shine!

The finished look:

Here is a closer look at my eye color so you can better see how I applied and blended the three shades:

Now that you know how to create this look, you can play around with different colors to create fun, flirty looks that are perfect for spring. For example, here is the color scheme I used…

But you could also use this pastel color scheme to create another beautiful look:

This latter color scheme uses the same pale pink eye shadow (#4) as a base, a lilac eye shadow (#6) for the lid, and a rose eye shadow (#1) for the crease. I would combine this eye color combination with a watermelon colored gloss and a slightly darker blush, such as Benefit’s Dallas, which is a rosy bronze.

As I hope you can see, you don’t have to spend a lot of time or money to look beautiful and trendy! This entire look took me less than 10 minutes to create, and I used products I already had in my makeup drawer. Even if you don’t have some of the colors necessary, you can pick up a few new eye shadows, new blush, and some new lip gloss for less than $20! I hope this tutorial gives you the knowledge and confidence to try some fun new makeup looks this season. Thanks again to Emily for inviting me to share my love to makeup with you all, and good luck with this week’s homework!

xoxo- Tara

Emily here: Tara, thank you so much for this very thorough and informative post! I’m glad I knew an expert I could call on to write about this topic! I don’t know about the rest of you all, but I sure learned a few things. Tara manages to share great tutorials, tips, and inspiration several times a week, while going to school for a PhD in psychology. In fact, today she’s defending her Master’s proposal! Be sure to check out Tara’s blog and cheer her on, and check out the wealth of information in her archives!

For your information:
Here’s where you can find the products Tara used, and some similar ones:

Real Colors Smolder-Eyes Shadow Palette Trickster
Blush Rush
Palladio Herbal Eye Shadow Primer
Beautique Brow Pencil Natural Blonde
So, I was really looking forward to last week’s homework, but I got swamped with my class projects and didn’t actually have time to do it. I’m guessing something similar might have happened to you too. So, if you’d like to still do last week’s homework challenge, go for it! I’d love to see what you come up with!
In case you do want to do last week’s challenge, I’m keeping this week’s homework simple. As simple as 1-2-3-4.
1. Wear one clothing item that you haven’t worn since you bought it, or that you haven’t worn for a very long time. These items can be called closet orphans. Here’s a fabulous post on wearing those orphans from Already Pretty.
2. Wear two jewelry items all week. Yes, even on those ordinary days. Earrings count as 1 item, so you could add a necklace, bracelet, ring, or any combination.
3. Wear three different types of bottoms this week. I wear jeans almost every single day, so this week I’m going to try to wear jeans, shorts, and a skirt or dress. The purpose of this is just to get us out of our clothing ruts.

4. Wear four different styles of tops this week. If you tend to wear tee shirts every day, this one is for you! Mix up your sleeve length, add a button up, go sleeveless, or whatever else you can come up with!

To give you some accountability, snap a picture of yourself in the mirror, or of your outfits. Choose one to share on the Scribbles facebook wall, or make a collage of them and share it with us.

How to Choose Colors that Flatter Your Skin Tone {Giveaway}

I hope you all had a lovely Easter!  Brian and I enjoyed the Easter breakfast, choir cantata, and drama at our church yesterday. Brian was in the drama, and it was definitely out of his comfort zone, but he did a great job! I was so proud!
Alright, now we are week two of our fashion series. This week we will focus on shopping, and there’s a new giveaway and a new homework assignment, but wait ’til the end of the post for that.

PhotobucketBut first, I feel like our discussion of style personality and body shape isn’t complete without talking about colors that look good with our skin tone. This has always been tricky for me. I have a hard time knowing if something is washing me out or if it isn’t “my” color. So I learned a lot from researching for this post!
To determine which colors flatter you, the first step is to find which “season” you are. Skin tones are divided into four seasons: Winter, Spring, Summer, and Autumn.

  • You have pink or blue undertones.
  • Your complexion could be pale white, yellowish-olive, or dark.
  • You have dark eyes.
  • You have dark hair.

Good colors:

  • bright, striking, and pure colors
  • White, red, bright blue, bright pink, and bright yellow are good choices
  • Jewel tones, such as dark red, emerald, and teal are also flattering.
  • Avoid subdued oranges and pale neutrals, such as beiges.
  • Your skin has golden undertones.
  • Your complexion is creamy white or peach.
  • Generally, you have blonde, strawberry blonde, or red hair.
  • You have freckles and rosy cheeks.
  • You have blue or green eyes.
Good colors:
  • Warm colors like peach, coral, golden yellow and golden brown.
  • Light colors, such as pastels, are flattering.
  • Blues and greens, especially aqua and teal, bring out the red highlights in your hair and accentuate your eyes.
  • Watch out for dusty hues, such as rose or dusty blue. These can wash you out.
  • Like winters, you have blue or pink undertones.
  • Your skin is pale and pink.
  • You have naturally blonde hair, or naturally brown hair.
  • You have light colored eyes.
Good colors:
  • Pastels and  neutrals with warm, pinkish undertones.
  • Lavender, plum, browns, and rose.
  • Avoid orange and colors that are too golden.
  • You can wear bright colors as well, such as hot pinks, bright blue, and green.
  • You have light brown, dark blonde, or red hair.
  • Your skin has golden undertones.
  • Unlike springs, you have brown or hazel eyes.
Good colors:
  • Choose colors with gold undertones.
  • Camel, beige, gold, orange, and dark brown flatter your skin, hair, and eyes.
  • Avoid dark colors with blue undertones, such as navy.
  • Jewel tones such as plum and teal are flattering.

Universally flattering color:
  • Eggplant.

More Info

The rest of this week, we will be talking about shopping. On facebook, several of you responded to my poll about fashion hang ups, and by far, the biggest hang up was the expense. So this week, your homework is to shop your closet!

You will need:
  • A timer
  • A clean, large, flat surface, such as your bed or floor.
  • A digital camera
Here’s how it works:
  1. Set a timer for 30 minutes.
  2. Dump your drawers and closet onto your bed so that you can see everything you have. I know it makes a mess, but it is the best way to really see what’s there! (Don’t include your shoes or accessories at this point)
  3. In the time left, see how many combinations you can come up with. You can do tried and true combinations you wear all the time, but try stretching yourself to come up with new outfits.
  4. Snap a quick picture of each one!
  5. After the timer runs out, look through your pictures. Pick your favorite NEW outfit, and add accessories and shoes.
  6. Take a picture of yourself wearing it, or if you’d rather not post a picture of yourself, just take a picture of the outfit. Then post it to the Scribbles From Emily Facebook wall so we can all be inspired by you! Let us know how many combinations total you came up with.
Once the picture is downloaded to your computer, go to Scribbles wall and choose “Photo” and upload.
There are several benefits to this exercise. You get to see all that you have all together, and you will come up with new ways to wear what you already have. This helps prevent you from buying things you already have. You also might find items deep in your closet that you’ve forgotten about.
Taking a picture of each outfit helps solidify the outfits in your mind, and gives you a visual reminder. I’ve read about women who put the pictures of their outfits into a photo album and keep it by their bed. In the morning, they flip through it and pick out what they want to wear that day. If you have trouble finding something to wear, maybe you should give that a try!
This Week’s Giveaway
For this week’s giveaway, I actually shopped my bathroom cabinets. For some reason, people love giving me body spray. I’m just not a body spray person I guess, because I’ve never ever used it! I’m also not a hair product person, I keep my hair routine simple and use as little product as possible. So, this week I’m giving away:

All this!

Rusk Priming Creme
Jergens sample of Cherry Almond lotion
Japanese Cherry Blossom body splash from Bath and Body Works
Japanese Cherry Blossom cooling mist from Bath and Body Works
Sun Ripened Raspberry body splash from Bath and Body Works
Two Ojon Hair Revitalizing Mists (weightless leave-in hair conditioner)
Sea Island Cotton body splash from Bath and Body Works
Love Spell body spray from Victoria Secret
Rusk W8less Plus (extra strong hold hairspray)

And, this Ralph Lauren bag.

Because no body needs that much body spray, I’m going to pick THREE winners this week.

Here’s how to enter:
  • Leave a comment on this post answering the question, “What colors look best on you?”
For extra entries:

  • Leave a comment letting me know which three giveaway items you would most like to receive. {1 entry}
  • Do this week’s homework. {10 entries}

Out of 37 entries, Last week’s winner of the headband from Handmade and Lovely was:
